They organise objects inside your account; they do not grant another person access and do not change the tracker configuration.\n\n ## Create a group\n\n Open **Settings** and find the device list. Choose the action to create a group, enter a short distinct name and select the ungrouped devices to add.\n\n Use operational names such as **Delivery**, **Service** or **North depot**. Do not put passwords, driver phone numbers or other private data in a group name because the name can appear in normal account views.\n\n ## Add or remove devices\n\n Each device has one `group` assignment in the current interface. Adding it to a new group moves its list placement; it does not create a second membership.\n\n Open the group editor, select the devices that should remain in the group and save. Clearing a device from the group returns it to the ungrouped section. It does not disable, delete or disconnect the device.\n\n ![Device group editor with a group name and two selected tracker objects](https://help.gpsoperator.com/storage/projects/47/pages/540/2026/09/4042cf27-2ff3-4f4d-8ccc-4c5aca3577aa.webp)\n\n *The editor renames the group and selects its members. Clearing membership changes list organisation only; it does not remove tracker data or create sharing rights.*\n\n ## Rename or remove a group\n\n Renaming a group changes its heading without changing device identifiers or stored tracks. When removing a group, read the confirmation: the intended result is to clear the grouping, not to delete the devices themselves.\n\n After any change, refresh the settings list and check that every device is under the expected heading.\n\n ## Device order\n\n The account can sort devices by the configured list order, and groups are displayed as list sections. If the order appears unexpected, check both the group assignment and the current sorting preference.\n\n A display order is not a priority for data collection. Moving a device higher in the list does not make it report more frequently.\n\n ## Use groups on the map\n\n On the monitoring map, group headings help you select the relevant part of the fleet. Select only the objects needed for the current task, then use **Show all** or centring controls as required.\n\n The group name itself does not create a separate tracking URL, operator account or permission boundary. Anyone who signs in with the same account still has the rights of that account.\n\n ## Share access separately\n\n To show devices without revealing the account password, create a restricted tracking link or an operator link in the access settings. Review its objects, time limits, password and history option independently of the group.\n\n Do not use a group name as proof that access was granted or revoked. Verify the actual link outside your signed-in session.\n\n ## If a device is missing from a group\n\n - search the ungrouped section;\n- confirm that the device was not moved to another group;\n- refresh the page after saving;\n- check whether service for the device is restricted;\n- report the object name, identifier and expected group to us.\n\n Do not delete and reconnect the tracker to repair a list assignment.\n\n [Analysing, exporting and deleting history](./analyse_export) | [Sharing access and tracking links](./share_access)","available_translations":[{"language":"en","title":"Device groups and sorting","html_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups?lang=en","markdown_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.md?lang=en","json_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.json?lang=en","api_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/channels/gps_operator_help/articles/device_groups?lang=en"},{"language":"ru","title":"Группы и порядок устройств","html_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups?lang=ru","markdown_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.md?lang=ru","json_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.json?lang=ru","api_url":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/channels/gps_operator_help/articles/device_groups?lang=ru"}],"_links":{"self":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.json?lang=en","api":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/channels/gps_operator_help/articles/device_groups?lang=en","html":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups?lang=en","canonical":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups?lang=en","markdown":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.md?lang=en","json":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/device_groups.json?lang=en","channel":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/channels/gps_operator_help","channel_articles":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/channels/gps_operator_help/articles","search":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/api/public/v1/search","documentation":"https://publicasta.com/api-docs#reading-publicasta","openapi":"https://publicasta.com/api-docs/openapi.json","llms":"https://help.gpsoperator.com/llms.txt"}}
